LESSON 1 -- DRAWING WITH SHAPES

What can you   draw   with a rectangle, a triangle, half circles, a diamond, and the letter m?

Step 1:
Let's start by turning the rectangle up and down so that it looks skinny.
Did you do that? Good.

Step 2:
Now flip the triangle so the point is down. Place it at the top of the rectangle.

Step 3:
Add a half circle on each side of the rectangle.
Have you guessed what you are drawing yet?

Step 4:
Now let's add some shading to the half circles and the triangle.
You can use a crayon if you like.

Step 5:
Have you guessed what you are drawing yet? No?
Add a half circle on each side of the triangle and you will see that it is an owl.
Place a small half circle inside the larger one to make the pupils of the owl.
Shade with pencil or use a crayon.

Step 6:
Draw a diamond shape between the eyes to make the beak.
Add two dots for the holes he breathes through.
Place the letter m at the bottom of the rectangle for the claws.
Ready for the next step? We're almost done.

Step 7:
Curve the claws so they hug the branch.
Add lines in his eyes.
Draw a few lines to suggest feathers on his breast.
Place him on a tree branch and draw the trunk of the tree.
What's missing? Oh, yes, the tail feathers. Step 8 tells how to put them on.

Step 8:
Add a few hot dog shapes to suggest the tail feathers.
Draw a line down each feather and add slanted lines so it looks real.
Finish your picture by adding stars and a moon.
Shade the tree so it looks round.

Did you have fun with your drawing?
If you did, I'll add more lessons later.
