Gordon Kessler's novel, DEAD RECKONING, is an exciting roller coaster ride through political intrigue, danger and dark family secrets. In general terms, it's a cross between the style of Tom Clancy and Stephen Coonts. It's a tale of a young woman who is given her first assignment as an undercover investigator for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). The story is fast paced, with a plot containing several twists and turns, but look out for the bombshell at the end. Ensign Janelle "Spurs" Sperling is assigned to the navy frigate, USS Atchison, to investigate drug running, murder, suspicious deaths and mysterious AWOLS. As her involvement deepens she discovers a link to international terrorism. The story takes her from one harrowing experience to another, starting when she is thrown overboard during a violent storm, to an all night chase by terrorists through the back streets of Bizarta Tunisia. Throughout the excitement, mystery and intrigue, Spurs also finds herself ensnared in a complicated web of romance. There's much more, but I would be telling the whole story if I were to continue. I give "Dead Reckoning" both thumbs up.
