Central Elementary School, in Burden, Kansas, observed Red Ribbon Week October 25 through 28. Led by their TADPOLES (Teens Against Drugs Provide Opportunities, Leadership, and Education Support), Tabetha S. and John M., the students participated in many activities. Tabetha and John read an informative message every morning over the intercom. The messages provided the students with activities they could do to support a drug and alcohol free, healthy lifestyle.
First Graders and Kindergarteners began a coloring contest on Monday. The Fifth and Sixth Graders received "Drug Free" weepuls to decorate their books or lockers. Tabetha and John passed out red M.A.D.D. antenna ribbons, provided by Cowley County Sheriff Bob Odell, to the complete staff and student body.
The students played a Stop and Go game in P.E. on Tuesday. They also received a Drug Free sticker in the lunch line. All students received a Tootsie Roll with the slogan, "Be a Roll Model, Stay Drug Free".
Wednesday the students ate red food. They were also treated to a puppet show written by TADPOLE Tabetha, and performed by Tabetha and John, and fellow Sixth Grader Emily E. All students also got a temporary tattoo with a drug free message.
On Thursday, the Pre-K through 4th grade received Halloween Trick or Treat bags. They participated in Drug Free / Healthy Choices centers in the afternoon. All the students received Blow Pops with the slogan, "Don't Blow It, Stay Drug Free" at the end of the day.
