Title I Reading

Title I is a federally funded program designed to provide children who are working below average with additional help in Reading, Math or Language Arts.  The program was created in the 1960's to assure schools in low-income areas had adequate resources to provide that extra instruction. At Central we are a School-Wide Title I program. This makes funding and administering our Title I program more flexible. The money we receive is federal money administered by the State of Kansas and is used to pay staff salaries and to buy materials.

The Title I program is a part of the Local Consolidated Plan which administers several other federal programs such as At Risk, Small Rural Schools, Title II-A (Teacher Quality), Title II-D (Technology), Title IV (Safe and Drug Free Schools), and Title V (New and Innovative Programs).

At Central, we emphasize early prevention of reading problems.  Our blended Pre-School program uses Success For All's Curiosity Corner. Central's all day Kindergartners also participate in SFA. First graders begin in the Roots program of Success for All.  Besides an hour and forty-five minutes of Reading instruction, approximately 30% of Central's First Graders also receive one-to-one SFA tutoring every day. Needy Second through Sixth Graders may also receive tutoring.
