Kids are out of school and home eating up all the food in the house and using all your Internet bandwidth! Smartphones, tablets, laptops, video game systems all connected to your family’s home Internet network. YouTube is the 2nd most popular app in the world – ranked just behind Google. YouTube has over 3 billion views per day. Each device that is connected and streaming YouTube videos will use on average 4Mbps to 8Mbps. When you multiply that by the number of devices in your home that are connecting at the same time (in my case three – one for each of my three sons) then you will get the suggested bandwidth needed for your home. In my example it would be 12-24Mbps. We subscribe to the 25Mbps package and it seems to do well for my family.

If you feel your Internet is running slow, there are a few questions to ask yourself. Are there multiple devices in your household including laptops, tablets, and smartphones? Have you noticed your Internet speeds seem to be going down as your usage goes up? Are one or more of those devices playing online games or streaming videos? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, you’ll want to consider getting more bandwidth (and corresponding Internet speeds) to meet your growing needs.

Many SKT customers are saturating their bandwidth because multiple devices in their homes are connected wirelessly to the Internet. This makes it seem as though their Internet service is running slow when it’s actually being maxed out.

Households with several family members accessing the Internet simultaneously will be happiest with one of our higher-level plans that provide greater bandwidth and faster speeds:

  • 12Mbps/2Mbps Unlimited Data for $67.95 (discounted pricing available in an SKT Bundle)
  • 25Mbps/3Mbps Unlimited Data for $92.95 (discounted pricing available in an SKT Bundle)

What exactly is bandwidth? The term refers to how much data you can send through a network or modem connection. Bandwidth is usually measured in bits per second, such as 10 Mbps (10 million bits per second). You can think of bandwidth as a highway with cars traveling on it; the highway is the network connection and the cars are the data. The wider the highway, the more cars can travel on it at one time and the faster they get to their destinations. The same principle applies to data – the more bandwidth, the more information that can be transferred within a given amount of time.

As you use more Web-connected devices, and use them for more data-intensive applications like streaming video and online gaming, it’s important to make sure your bandwidth increases as well. For help determining which Internet plan is right for your household, call us today at 888.758.8976.
