News Get to Know Heath Winebaugh, SKT Customer Systems Engineer

Heath Allan Winebaugh, SKT Customer Systems Engineer, has this to say about his job, “Customer service is big in this industry. Many times, I am the first one the customer sees.” And that’s a good thing for SKT customers! On December 14, Heath will have been with SKT for one year (but ask anyone around here, and it seems as though he’s always been with us).

Originally from Rochelle, Illinois, Heath is the oldest of four – with one brother who is 13 months his junior, then a younger brother and sister. His mother was a Big Valley TV show fan; hence the name “Heath” was chosen for her first child – for “Heath Barkley,” one of the show’s biggest stars. Aptly named, Heath enjoys the great outdoors. He has fond memories of annual trips to Boundary Waters in Canada with his son, Zach, and another father and son. Taking only what they could fit into a backpack, this foursome relished remote camping, canoeing, and fishing for a week. This tradition often included taking in the spectacular Northern Lights.

Zach now attends college at Illinois State University. Heath has lived in Wichita for four years now, and has a special lady in his life named Greta. He likes the weather here, which is great for riding Harleys year-round. He owns two. With Greta riding pillion, they like to journey to events such as Bikes, Blues & BBQ in Arkansas, or take a spur-of-the-moment jaunt down to Stillwater to eat at Eskimo Joe’s. Traveling on a Harley and trying out new restaurants (not chains) is fun and Heath says, “I’ll try anything that doesn’t move for three seconds, but there are just two things I won’t eat:  Nutella and marshmallows.”

Heath’s favorite movie is Star Wars and he’s an avid rock music fan who’s seen KISS 13 times. He’s planning to take in Five Finger Death Punch this weekend at Intrust Bank Arena. He admits that his first concert experience was at the age of 15, seeing Rod Stewart with his Mom and stepdad. He also enjoys sporting events – especially Boston Red Sox baseball and Chicago Bears football (which is not surprising, since he grew up just a little bit south of Chicago).

Already bringing 15 years of solid experience with him, Heath’s initial training time at SKT was short, and he’s taught us a thing or two, as well. Heath definitely enjoys working outside and staying on the move. He’s left-handed, and has this to say about his favorite gadgets: “I always have my snips (scissors) and knife on my personal belt and use them the most of any tool I have. They are my favorites. If I don’t have them with me, it’s like forgetting to wear your watch…” He’s always ready for the next quest, and we’re glad that Heath Winebaugh is on the SKT team!
