SKT Distributes Masks to Essential Workers

STRONGER TOGETHERThat’s how we roll at SKT, and we wanted to show our appreciation and support for the businesses that are providing essential services to rural Kansans. Because the CDC has recommended wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, we realized a tangible way to do this was to provide washable masks for these employees within our service area.

So, as we could, we searched far and wide for fabric, filters, elastic, pipe cleaners, screen printing, and seamstresses. The end result? Two hundred and forty-two masks were created and delivered to 26 locations in 12 rural Kansas communities on Friday, April 17 – exactly one week from inception to application (to faces)Two staff carefully made the deliveries and drove over 300 miles combined, and they received almost that many smiles.

Our hope is that the masks will help keep employees and their communities safe and healthy as they go to work each day or complete essential personal errandsTwo bonuses to the project are that SKT employeealso received the washable cloth masks, and, in making the initial calls to the convenience stores, food banks, grocery stores, pharmacies, and restaurants in SKT’s service area, we found that many were already well supplied – due to the generosity of quilters, seamstresses, and crafters in their communities. We ARE stronger together!

Every single SKT Stronger Together mask has nobeen distributed; however, if you’re looking for a local supplier of washable maskswe can recommend Bullseye Bow, based in Dexter, Kan.

Here are some mask photos. If you look closely, you can see the smiles – the eyes have it! Stay safe.
