Events & Community Involvement 11th Annual Pasture Golf Tournament Another Success
The weather was perfect in Beaumont, Kan., and it was a great day of fun and fellowship for the golfers and spectators alike at the 11th Annual Cowboy Classic Pasture Golf Tournament held on Saturday, August 22, 2020. Despite COVID-19 precautions and a somewhat scaled-back aura, this year’s fundraiser was deemed another successful one for the Beaumont Community Association. It’s the group’s major fundraiser each year.
Eighteen teams participated. They played in the pasture/air field across from the Beaumont Hotel – clearing out as needed when a plane was landing. The traditional lunch of brisket, their famous cowboy beans, along with lots of desserts, was relished by all. New this year (and completed just within the last three weeks) was the shelter house south of the community center. The shade it provided was appreciated, and hopefully, a concrete floor will be in place by this time next year, thanks to the tournament proceeds and other donations.
Beaumont is home to the historic Beaumont Hotel, built in 1879, and the 1885 Wooden Water Tower (the only one of its kind remaining in the United States), both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, aka the “Frisco,” established Beaumont as a major railhead for shipping cattle in the late 1800s and early 1900s. At its peak, the population of Beaumont was 200; today fewer than 50 people live there.
The Beaumont Community Association was formed in 2008 to help preserve the history of this small Kansas town in Butler County. While their numbers may be small, area residents rallied together to build a replica of the “Old Frisco Depot,” providing a multi-purpose community center and venue. It was completed in 2016. SKT is proud to provide telecommunications products and services to Beaumont, located in the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas, and we have proudly supported this unique golf tournament since its inception.
