Leave your front porch light on and gather at the Belle Plaine City Park by the pool for an evening of fun and food at the National Night Out party sponsored by the Belle Plaine Police Department. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks will be served. There’ll be a DJ, as well as water slide and bounce house and games including an Ice Pop “Cake” walk. Sno cones, popcorn and ice cream cups will also be served by various community groups. “National Night Out” began as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

While the one night is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs, and violence, “National Night Out” represents the kind of spirit, energy, and determination to help make neighborhoods a safer place year round. The night celebrates safety and crime prevention successes and works to expand and strengthen programs for the next 364 days.
